after 35 gallons of primer, 23 gallons of citron yellow paint, dozens of trips to home depot and countless hours of spackling, george finally opened its doors in late 2004. what is george, you ask? george is a store opened by holly and two kathys. it is part gift shop and part gallery. george carries everything from vintage button rings to handmade greeting cards, leather wallets to chandelier earrings, metal forged belt buckles to original paintings. top all of that with some old fashion candy and a magic fortune telling fish and you have george! we are constantly changing our merchandise. one day you may find a linoprint of happy faces on the wall and the next you may spot a vibrant velvet painting. there are over two dozen artists who have their work in our shop, and we're adding more each week. we know when people think of georgetown, they might think 'industrial' rather than boutique, but that's changing. as one of our first customers said when entering the shop, "it's about time someone put some uptown in georgetown." in the few months we've been opened, george has been featured in the Tablet's wishlist (january 2005) and in the lastest edition of "eat.shop.seattle". thank you, kai! so that's a bit about george. the best way to see what we are, who we are, is simply to head to georgetown. grab a scone at the bakery, have some coffee at all-city and take a seat in our red-therapy chairs. george is happy to be participating in the august 6th artwalk along georgetown's airport way. we put the george in georgetown! |
